The Tossing of the Luminary
In the Realm of Arden, it is a custom to toss two pence, Sriábh Dhòua (transliterated as “luminary two”) upon the threshold of the
doorway as a token of good luck. Nobles in Durkshuír started the custom during the Sad Era, and it was once again practiced in Durkshuír later by the nobles during the reign of King Tristan.
When T’Bleth the Prophet made his prophecies of King Tristan at West Archive before the Sad Era culminated, the nobles in the Duchy that left their abode to hear his message,
tossed silver coins or “luminaries” at the thresholds of their doorways, as a token of luck. Whatever luck they left at the threshold was a symbol of hope upon their return home,
after hearing the messages of T’Bleth the Prophet. It was believed that if the coins were gone, taken by Ravìnya, the dreaming god, a blessing of luck would soon cover the household.
If the coins remained, it rendered the household victim to trial and tribulation. During this ill time, the coins would remain untouched or unmoved, for fear of a death, disease
or torment of the banshees in the household. It was rule that the coin tosser must leave the coins untouched for goodfortune would surely come. Ravìnya would return to the abode,
remembering the coins, and grant the household goodfortune, greater than if the coins were immediately tossed and taken.
To the present day, two coins remain forever embedded in the threshold of Thría Ceàrthaòdh in Conería, the temple of the Warriors of Srí.
When Daulky came to visit the Sun-Sent Guardian of the Church to proclaim the arrival of the One True God from beyond Plíagge, his own footstep on the coins miraculously sealed the threshold forever
and ever, so that the coins could not be removed (Chapter Divan). Perhaps it was a symbol of coming hardship in the Kingdom of Cátern, and that only the god of the Concordant Summit could remove them.
Whatever the case, the coins remain embedded there forever, and not even the mighty Fire Prince of King Ilùviuks could remove it when he usurped the Duchy unto himself. “Through shadow and
despair, there the coins remained in stone, so, not even he, the Fire Prince, could totally obtain the land of Durkshuír totally, for the coins remained covered under the ashes of the town.”

The True Story about the epiphany behind the Luminary
When I had my first place here in Brunswick on S. Carpenter Road, November 15, 1996, I came home one day to find two pennies on the threshold
of my apartment. How did those get there? I thought. After wondering about it, I picked them up and put them in my coat pocket, thinking no more of the significance. They must’ve
fallen from my pocket.
Unaware of the fortune in it, I thought nothing of it, until it happened again!
This time, months later, seeing the pennies, I decided just to leave them there on the threshold. Call it coincidence or superstition, but when
I left them there, I noticed goodfortune during the time the pennies remained on the threshold. I never picked them up! The goodfortune I experienced was a promotion and pay raise at work,
something I really wanted and needed. Ah, just coincidence, huh.
In December 1998, when I moved upstairs to another apartment, I had forgotten all about the two pennies at the threshold of my previous apartment. Well, after settling into my new place,
THE TWO PENNIES APPEARED AGAIN!!! And, I swear I don’t know how they got there. Then, I remembered what goodfortune followed after finding the pennies from before. So, instinctively,
I left the two pennies there. Again, shortly after noticing them again, I had goodfortune again. This time, it was a car (April 2000) and a computer (January 1999), things that I wanted and needed.
The car was a blessing, because for 4 years, I walked everywhere, and the computer I would use to begin writing my first novel, The Chronicles of Tristan. It would replace the Smith-Corona
typewriter I was using previously.
However, to my folly, I later picked up those two pennies and it would be my own demise, well at least it seemed like it. Call it coincidence or superstition, but soon,
financial situations were not looking good and I lost my job. The Ponderosa, that I worked at, burnt down and, a year later, I would be forced to move out and find another place to live. Yes, I would be evicted.
Did the two pennies at the threshold play an important part in this? I really don’t think so, but that is what I noticed. Was it symbolic of something? Who knows?
All I know is that strange events revolved around the two pennies on the threshold. When I was finishing the chapter of Dakrav in the Chronicles of Tristan (November 1999), I went back and added the
Go òaggomhain n-Sriábh [3], “pence tossing” in the story as a symbol of “good luck” or "lofty waters."
A few weeks ago, in the spirit of things, whether coincidence (no pun intended) or superstition, I tossed five pennies at the threshold of my room, maybe just maybe,
in hopes to some goodfortune. Heh, I’m Irish, so superstition is in our family. Am I hoping that goodfortune comes because of it? Probably not. Goodfortune does not come from superstition and pennies.
Miracles come from God.
In the Chapter of Dakrav before the “Conversion of Daulky Kinkayle,” General Draconisse the Struílhuim tossed two luminary (silver coins), and Daulky Kinkayle tossed three
more to complete the Elemental Points of Arden. On what would be Christmas Day in our world, the One True God, the God beyond the Horizon, would soon visit Daulky Kinkayle as a “greater light.” The message of salvation
and the vision of the Forked Tree [4] would be born in the Realm of Arden shortly thereafter. Salvation is gift, a gift from God, and it came to us in a manger on Christmas Day! It manifested in the Realm of Arden as the
Mó ghóag gra frí Plíaggain, the Greater Light beyond Plíagge. The light beyond Pliagge outshone the light of Queen of Clouds and the light of King Exiv. This was a Holy Light that shone down on the company,
not of their world. It was the very light of Bethlehem shining down on the company, the light of the Virgin Mary and the Lion from the Tribe of Judah. Daulky Kinkayle saw it and understood what it was. His visions of
the Forked Tree would soon be told to all inhabitants of their world.
Merry Christmas to all! [Hint, Hint] Christmas, that is the True birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, is probably sometime in either March or April when the signs of Virgo and Leo are in the culmination of the Night Sky!
